Fees
The University of Melbourne has adopted a new system for charging Postgraduate Course Fees. Fees per subject will be set on an annual basis. The subject fee for students commencing the Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness (four subjects) and the Master of Agribusiness (equivalent to 12 subjects) in 2008 will be approx $2,893 per subject.
Full Fee Paying Students
Prior to 2005 students were charged for residential costs (meals, accommodation and course dinner), text books, materials, postage and software in addition to the course fee. These charges have now been incorporated into the total course fee for full-fee paying students, so there should be no further charges throughout the period of the course.
Over 90% of applicants receive substantial financial support from either their employer or government farming subsidies (such as FarmBis). The employer support typically ranges from 50% to covering the full course fee. Should you need support in approaching your employer for funding, please don’t hesitate to contact the Course Administrator who will arrange further information for you.
Fee Help is now available for this course for Australian residents or holders of Australian permanent visas. Fee Help is an interest-free loans facility for fee-paying postgraduate students undertaking non-research courses. It is similar to the deferred payment arrangements available under HECS. Tax Benefits:
If your study has a connection to your current income-earning activities, you should examine Taxation Ruling TR 98/9 closely with your accountant. The ruling examines deductibility of program fees under self-education expenses under Section 8-1 of the Australian Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. The ruling provides comprehensive guidelines on eligibility and types of deductions available.
Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP)
There will be a number of CSP (formerly HECS) places available for Master of Agriusiness students in 2008. Students receiving a CSP place will also be charged for residential costs and text books for each subject. For further information please contact the Master of Agribusiness office on (03) 8344 6883.
