Land and Environment Master of Agribusiness

Career Options

What are your core talents and abilities around which you are likely to anchor a successful career?

Career decisions for managers in agribusiness can be left to chance or planned in a more systematic way. While the majority of employees in business tend to wait for the 'tap on the shoulder' at various points in their career, employees are increasingly looking to advance their careers by managing the process. Many useful models exist for this purpose and all touch on issues of self-analysis, objective setting, short and long term planning.

Paul Twine
Monsanto

I commenced the Master of Agribusiness in 2006 and my responsibility at that time was Finance Director for Monsanto Australia. Soon after, I accepted a new position as Chemistry Business Manager for Monsanto Asia. This position calls for considerable travel throughout Asia and working with people in different time zones mainly in the USA and Europe. The Master of Agribusiness, predominately on-line program allows me to manage the study program while I am travelling. The convenience of being to able stay connected through the online discussion forums with fellow students, download reading materials, assignments and submit assignments is the only way that I could contemplate an MBA through a highly recognised university. I highly recommend this course.Paul Twine, Asia Chemistry Business Manager, Monsanto

Catherine Willis, NRE

Since completing the course Catherine has been promoted to the new position of Director Business Services in the Agriculture Division of NRE. "This new position involves leading a business services unit and corporate strategy and planning. The course has also brought my educational qualifications up-to-date as my last formal study was a Graduate Diploma in 1979. Personally I feel that the course has given me confidence and a better understanding of business at a higher level."

Robert Wallace, Quality Consultants

“On a personal level I have a clearer and broader perspective on most issues and I have made new contacts and a new qualification that have converted into new business,” says Robert.

John Renyard, Warrnambool Cheese & Butter

Since completing the Master of Agribusiness, John has become more attuned to areas that may be important in the fine-tuning of his dairy company, or in building up its value. He believes that he has a far better understanding of business and the demands and development of companies and relationships in general. On his farm John has found broad application of areas of study from use of capital, to employment of people and a vast improvement in his research skills.

Mark Greenshields
Farm Manager & Agribusiness Consultant
I commenced the Master of Agribusiness in 2006 with the intention of sharpening my management skills within our broadacre farming operation. What I found along the way was an increased confidence to participate in all areas of agribusiness in Australia. Being able to objectively evaluate policies and programs rather than rely on subjective opinions has opened doors as well as built my confidence. I am now in a position to expand my contribution beyond the farm gate and have recently supplemented my management responsibilities with a part-time consultative position within an established South Australian agricultural consultancy. The on-line format, while demanding, is flexible enough to allow busy professionals to participate in this excellent Masters program. Mark Greenshields, Farm Manager & Agribusiness Consultant.
